Rams Picked Eighth in A-10 Softball Poll

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island was picked to finished eighth in the Atlantic 10 Softball Coaches Poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams showed improvement in their second season under head coach Bridget Hurlman. Rhody was 8-15 in conference play last season, more than doubling its win total from the previous year when the Rams were 3-17. The year before Hurlman arrived, Rhode Island was 1-21 in A-10 play, so she has more than doubled the team's wins in each of her first two years.

Five-time defending champion Fordham was the near-unanimous pick to win the league this year, receiving nine of the 10 first-place votes. Massachusetts was the only other team to get a first-place vote, finishing second in the overall results. Dayton, Saint Joseph's and George Washington rounded out the top five in the coach voting.

Rhode Island opens its season with four games next weekend at the Elon Softball Tournament in North Carolina. The Rams play host Elon on Friday, Feb. 16, Mount Saint Mary's and Bowling Green Saturday, Feb. 17 and North Texas on Sunday, Feb. 18.
