How it Happened
Dayton (17-31, 7-14 A-10) got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Rhode Island (21-26, 11-10 A-10) quickly evened things up in the top of the fourth however, as Jackson Coutts scored on an RBI single by Mike Foley to make it a 1-1 game.

An eighth-inning leadoff home run by Sam Ilario later gave Rhody a 2-1 edge, but the Flyers scored twice in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead at 3-2.

Then, in similar fashion to Saturday's win, the Rams rallied in the top of the ninth. Foley got things started with a leadoff double, before advancing to third on a single by Brett McManus. Laurence Hill then delivered a one-out double to drive in both runners and give Rhody a 4-3 advantage. Jordan Powell followed with his third hit of the afternoon - a single to left that plated Hill and put Rhody on top 5-3.

Tyler Barss then shut the door in the bottom of the ninth to pick up his first career win.

Inside the Box Score

  • In his first at-bat of the day, redshirt junior Sam Ilario homered over the left field wall for his second round tripper of the season.
  • Senior Jordan Powell went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and his team-leading 18th stolen base of the season.
  • Senior Mike Foley singled twice and doubled once. He also scored a run and drove one in.
  • Redshirt junior Laurence Hill went 2-for-4 and recorded what proved to be the game-winning hit in the top of the ninth - a two-run double that put URI on top for good.
  • Freshman Xavier Vargas was 2-for-4 on the afternoon. He hit .500 (5-10) for the series, recording a triple, a double, three singles, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored.
  • Freshman Jackson Coutts singled in the fourth to extend his reached-base streak to 32 consecutive games.
  • Redshirt senior Tyler Barss - Rhode Island's all-time leader in saves (29) - was credited with the win, the first of his career.
  • Redshirt senior Taso Stathopoulos allowed three runs on seven hits over a 7.0-inning start.
