KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior wide receiver Aaron Parker finds himself on the national radar with the 2019 season just around the corner. The explosive playmaker is one of 25 players who will open the year on the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Watch List, STATS announced Wednesday.
Parker - a CAA Football First Team All-Conference selection last season - is one of the top receivers in Rhode Island history. As a junior, the Prince George's County, Md. product led all CAA Football players in receiving yards, receiving yards per game and touchdown receptions. He finished the season with 61 catches for 955 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led Rhode Island with 66 points scored, as he also rushed for one touchdown.
Parker was 15th in the nation with his 10 touchdown catches, becoming the seventh player in program history with at least 10 in one season. He also was 24th in the nation with 955 receiving yards, the sixth most in a season by a Ram. Parker was 30th in the nation with 5.5 catches per game.
Entering his senior season, Parker already ranks fourth in program history in touchdown catches (21), seventh in receiving yards (2,219), ninth in receptions (135) and 10th in points scored (132).
Parker is one of three CAA Football players on the initial Walter Payton Watch List. The others are the Towson duo of quarterback Tom Flacco and running back Shane Simpson.
