How It Happened
Rhode Island (11-3) picked up the win over the ACC's Boston College Tuesday, beating the Eagles 2-1 in a game that was delayed by lightning in the second half.

The Rams struck first in the 53rd minute, when Dominik Richter took a pass from Chae Brangman in the midfield. Richter was able to slip through the defense and take it in on a breakaway for a 1-0 lead.

Boston College (4-7-3) tied the score nearly three minutes later when Simon Entrom scored off an assist from Lasse Lehmann.

Following an hour-long lightning delay in the 78th minute, Brangman knocked home the winner for Rhode Island in the 80th minute, with assists from Tyler Dickson and Peder Kristiansen. Kristiansen sent a free kick into the box that was redirected by Dickson to Brangman, who shot the ball into the right side of the net.

BC got a couple late shots on goal, but Roger Penske turned them away to preserve the victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Senior Dominik Richter's goal was his team-leading eighth of the season, and 20th of his career. He now has seven goals in his last nine games.
  • This was the second time senior Chae Brangman has had a goal and an assist in the same game this season. He also did so against Saint Louis on Oct. 3.
  • Junior Peder Kristiansen's assist on Brangman's game-winner was his team-leading sixth of the season. The Rhody left back now has 17 career assists.
  • There was an hour-long weather delay in the second half due to lightning.
  • In a quiet first half, there was just one shot on goal, which came from BC's Ronaldinho Diniz on a header that was stopped by Roger Penske in the 23rd minute.
  • Rhody's Tyler Dickson had a header of his own with just under 15 minutes left in the half, but it was blocked by an Eagle defender.
  • Neither keeper was tested very often. BC's Christian Garner registered just two saves. Rhody's Roger Penske had three saves, two of which came in the final four minutes.
  • This is the second time Rhody head coach Gareth Elliott has won at least 11 games with the Rams. He won 13 games in 2014. Elliott has won 10 or more games four times in six seasons.
