KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island junior Kylie Shivery was named Co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after leading the Rams to a perfect 3-0 week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Shivery batted .667 (6-for-9) with one home run, one double, four runs batted in and four runs scored as Rhode Island swept Saint Louis in a three-game series over the weekend. Shivery had a .727 on-base percentage for the weekend, reaching base safely eight times in 11 plate appearances. She also had a 1.111 slugging percentage.
During the three-game series, Shivery scored at least one run in each game. She scored what proved to be the winning run in a 3-2 win over the Billikens Sunday morning, and then her three-run home run ended the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, invoking the eight-run rule in a 10-2 victory.
This is the second career Player of the Week honor for Shivery, who also earned once as a sophomore. She joins Kellie Cookus as the only Rhode Island players to be named player of the week for the conference twice in their career. Cookus won the award once in 1996 and again in 1998.
Sharing the Player of the Week honor with Shivery was La Salle's Mackenzie Obert. The Pitcher of the Week is Fordham's Madison Aughinbaugh, while the Rookie of the Week went to George Mason's Bekah Ansbro.
